Post- The International Fine Arts and Antique Dealer Show

I was pleasantly suprised.

I went with the idea that it’s going to be silver, jewelry and fun, though kitshy kind of art. But there was some fine arts and some that I honestly would love to own. My favorite was “the presentation” by Henry Moore, a Yorkshire artist. There were some wonderful little Eugene Boudin’s that would be pefect to start a collection with, but we were a bit too intimidated to ask the prices (especially already knowing that we couldn’t pay them). Other works in tow were some uninteresting piece on strawberries attributed to Renoir, a Degas done with an unusual palette, and a couple over-zealously cleaned Dutch pieces. Perhaps, that was the point of biggest surprise; how clean and bright the works were, as if diligently scrubbed of all textures with some sort of window cleaner. Meanwhile, a contemporary oriental work in an adjacent gallery embraced thick, coagulated pieces of paint- inviting to one’s tactile sensibilities. It seemed strange to take away such a significant part of the artwork…

Otherwise, the show for me was, if not a runaway success, a definite point of interest and I would absolutely be excited to keep going, and maybe even one day, start purchasing something.
